Albert (Alan) Dormaier
Albert has been designing for over 50 years. He graduated from the University of Oregon with a major emphasis in Architecture, Interior Design, and Urban Planning. From there he went to Parsons Design School in New York to continue his design education and while there took classes at The Institute of Design and Construction in Brooklyn to further educate himself on what is now called design/build and architectural construction. He gained extensive knowledge on construction management as well.
During his career, he has designed and consulted on over 500 projects and it is estimated that he has worked with over 700 contractors and sub-contractors. He was the leading designer for the largest condo conversion in the world (a 70 story high rise in Chicago, Il.) and worked for CEO’s of major corporations such as Sultan Industries, ESPN, and PepsiCo. He won an international design award sponsored by Gran Bazaar Magazine in Italy for the “Best small space design”, a 500 square foot condo in Los Angeles. The condo was also published in New Dimensions Magazine in Hong Kong and Designers West previously in Los Angeles. The award was first place of over 15,000 entrants worldwide.
His career has spanned a period of time where architectural interior designers did not have the attention that the media has brought to the business today. He worked on small decorating jobs, as well as massive remodels, including a 13,000 square foot remodel original designed by John Lloyd Wright in Rancho Santa Fe, California. The owner had the largest private Etruscan art collection in the world, which would result in designing featured earthquake proof display stands.
He has also owned and operated a furniture reproduction company which copied traditional and antique furniture. In addition ,he is currently the Design Director for his family’s custom upholstery company.
Recently he has been designing custom homes, and furnishing them to the accessorizing phase. His recent home designs include a home for a retirement couple, which included amenities for the disabled.
Additionally, he remodeled a home in Costa Mesa , California for longtime clients and friends from an East Coast traditional look to a fresh coastal design.
